Quality of Java installers

Hi decided to get a 64 bit "bin" extension installer for Linux installation of JDK 6 u 27 and when I executed it, this is what it gave ...........

Unpacking...
Checksumming...
Extracting...
./install.sfx.9113: 1: ELF : not found
./install.sfx.9113: 2: Syntax error: ")" unexpected
Failed to extract the files.  Please refer to the Troubleshooting section of
the Installation Instructions on the download page for more information.

And a file Java installer generated .....

What is that messed up file above that the Java installer generated !!??

This is the quality of Java from Oracle. Oracle have been screwing up Java badly for so many steps since it took over Java by "eating up" Sun Microsystem.

Oracle..... HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA EXPECT US JAVA DEVELOPERS TO DEVELOP JAVA !!??

Broken Java installers for JDK 6u27 (64 bit), screwed up Java 7 features and possibly Java 8, undemocratic on the JCP board....

Oracle.... HOW ELSE DO YOU EXPECT US JAVA DEVS TO USE JAVA YOU PROVIDE !!??

Java Governance in Shambles

Read:

It is sad to see Oracle misusing, abusing and not even giving Java a second thought and shipped a Java 7 out of their doors knowing of a major bug in it.

The governance of Java in the hands of Oracles only causes JAVA TO FALL INTO SHAMBLES !!!

As a developer using mainly Java, I am sad to see how Java is treated. Oracle refused to give-in and heed the community and soon Java simply becomes more badly governed and more troubles would arise from it.

A good backup for any developer / programmer is to have a backup language in an event your main language simply sucks (Java for my case.... and I am now learning abit of other languages to pick a backup language to move over abit).

Oracle's Patents Invalidated

Read:

It's interesting to note that the USPTO had to invalidate so many patent claims (24 of them) from Oracle. Why wasn't the patent application rejected before being approved ? If the patent vetting processes were carefully controlled, USPTO would not need to invalidate so many patents and the dispute between Oracle and Google may not have had any ground to begin with in the first place.

How efficient is the USPTO's patent vetting process, now we have seen some light of our own.

For Google, it would be great news that the 24 patent claims hold no grounds anymore as the USPTO invalidated all 24 of them.

Oracle would definitely be very upset and may try it's best to blow things up and make things worse as Oracle lost all 24 patent claims in one go and which corporation would sit back and allow all 24 patent claims it is using in a patent dispute lawsuit to be invalidated ?

The battle between Google and Oracle would be more heated and interesting to watch and for now, Google have the definite advantage on it's side.

Giving up OpenOffice

Read:
Finally Oracle saw some light and decided that OpenOffice could not be continued to be under their governance and had to be given to the community (by handing it over to Apache Foundation). That's one good move but it's way too late. Better late then never.

Edit: Curious, why didn't Oracle simply hand over the rest of OpenOffice to The Document Foundation which already have huge community support and have been working on LibreOffice fork for a long time, whereas, Apache hadn't done much on OpenOffice ?

A Year of Bad Karma from Oracle

Read:
A year after Sun Microsystem was eaten by the always hungry corporate big brother called Oracle, nothing but crap spills from them, blackening the legacy of Sun.

We do not need much more elaboration to know the numerous bad karma done by Oracle.

Hate Oracle

Read:
The above is good enough to piss us developers into hating Oracle like poison. How can Oracle's personal be so rude as quoted from Kohsuke's blog from the above link:
When the representative of Oracle says it to my face that I should just go find something else to work on, or that I need to immediately stop making [infrastructure] changes or the next email I will receive will be from their lawyers, or when you hear him describe me as a hurdle to the community, I think writing on the wall is pretty clear to me.
I think developers should try to fork off whatever projects Oracle would want to kill and then stir off and far away from the directions Oracle is heading to avoid anymore head-on collisions, getting ourselves into unnecessary lawsuits and legal battles.

I HATE ORACLE

Java & The Three Kingdoms: Oracle is Cao Cao.

Imagine Java as a whole country. And now, it is split into factions. For this context, we would use the infamous Three Kingdoms. Oracle would be Northern Wei with it's leader as Cao Cao, the tyrant prime minister.

What other imaginations do you guys have for Java ?

Google, Java, Oracle - messed up

Read:
Now Google's legal defense is in a mess, blaming third parties for not modifying their source and all other messed up arguments. Without a doubt, Oracle violated the trust and respect and caused the fragmentation of once the respect Sun and Java earned.

With a simple turn of a hand, Google, Oracle, Java is in a huge global mess. Java, threatened with splits in the community and forks from the main stream Java Oracle is now controlling.

Java Fork Predictions:
Google indeed made a huge mistake, wading into a huge patent minefield without opening it's eyes and being careful. Oracle, as usual, always making situations difficult and always making people find a reason to hate Oracle and Larry, tries their very best to piss people off. Java, now in turmoil, it's fate is still undecied and gloomy, looms closer to destruction.

To stay clear of the Java Chaos, and from it's "polluting aura of madness", I would personally advise people to learn a language other than Java or JVM related (e.g. C++, C#/.NET, VB, PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl and many more...). I personally prefer Ruby for it's ability to quickly build and develop applications.

Here's Ruby's License which seems more clean and FREE (FSF definition of FREE) then Chaotic Java: http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/LICENSE.txt .

For those Java users who are on the fence, I guess it's time you take sides and it would be better to move away from Oracle's side. I dare say you would not get anything good out of Oracle and they would squeeze you dry like what happened to Sun.

Choose your sides well...

ATG - Future Victim of Oracle

Read:
Another future victim of Oracle. When would people ever learn that doing business with Oracle is pure madness ? Look at what happened to Sun... I guess Sun is simply just a name, a couple of pages in history, some innovations, empty shell and that's about it.

Oracle's losing it !!!

Read:
These are but a few examples of the aftermath of Oracle not being able to properly handle Java and also Sun that it recently acquired.

Oracle's losing it !!!

Oracle's huge mistake on OO.o

Again, Oracle made another huge mistake and this time, it's about Openoffice.org.

Microsoft have been teasing and attempting to stamp out OpenOffice [here], and Oracle really let us down by being mean and uncooperative. If the situation of OpenOffice doesn't get resolved and parties interested do not stay united, that would be Microsoft's dream. Microsoft's ambitions to stamp out open source would come a step closer to fulfilment and it would be a disaster to the open source community.

Oracle... if you do not wake up, it maybe too late. You would lose support of the people who once supported your products and projects that you bought over from Sun.

Oracle's customers are actually developers and the community, not the corporate world. The real 'invisible' income are from the community. If it weren't for open source advocates and supporters pushing for their organisations and corporations to embrace open source and OpenOffice, there wouldn't be what Openoffice is today. OpenOffice, being the second in market share is all thanks to the effort by those community members, developers and open source users and advocates.

OpenOffice really owe it's success to us, the community. How would a product be successful without any users ?

Oracle, REPENT NOW !!!!!!

Let's all move to GO-OO or LibreOffice as other Linux distributions and Open advocates have done.

James Gosling finally speaks

Read:
Wow, Oracle is really that bad. Hmmm. Imagine you don't allow employees to chill out and have fun to boost morale ? Turn the father of Java into some figurehead without much power and screw with Sun's projects and the open source.

Next in-line for the Microsoft's 'Throne of Evil' ... Oracle. Microsoft's heirs are really so numerous these days.

What Oracle Should do to Ja

Read:
Oracle has gotten itself into a whole load of bad name after taking over Sun.

Here's my view... may sound abit philosophical but that's my view anyway.

Why does Oracle fight over patents ? Sue Google and do all these unnecessary stuff when they could have spent so much time and effort doing even more constructive things. The link above reflects exactly what Oracle and previously Sun should have done which has been so long overdue.

Stop the fighting and jealousy and all. Make peace... really, a lot of constructive time have been wasted. Cooperate with Google and make the World a better place. This is not just for Oracle. This is for all corporations, all governments, all groups, all people, everyone. It sounds hippie but what the World needs now is stop for a moment, reflect their actions and impacts and make peace with each other. Humanity would advance faster and be able to handle problems.

Oracle - Now vs 1994

Read:
As everyone knows, the current Oracle is tyrannical, sueing Google for it's Dalvik VM. Reading the 1994 statement Oracle had written to the USPTO office against software patents, Oracle now is not the same as it was in 1994 when it wrote the letter to the patent office.

Oracle...when are you going to realize your mistakes and negative impacts you have done to the open source and Java community ? It seems like we cannot trust Oracle anymore as it have decided to give up it's 1994 stance on software patents.

The Corrupted Evil Oracle

We have all known that nothing goes well when Oracle literally 'eats up' Sun. Most of us who were pretty much happier with Sun have seen our predictions come true ... which is when Oracle takes over, we are in for HELL. It's literal and it's real.

Firstly, Oracle kills off innovative Sun initiated projects, refuses to support OpenSolaris, puts a price tag on MS Office plugin for ODF format (making people pay to use ODF format on MS Office) and now Oracle attacks Google because of the Dalvik VM for Android (Read: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/08/oracle-sues-google-over-use-of-java-in-android-sdk.ars) .

Isn't Oracle gonna promote the use of Java rather then hinder it's growth ?

Good thing James Gosling quit and escape this evil menacing company called Oracle when Oracle decides to eat up Sun.

Everything when really bad when Oracle ate Sun up. Ouch and it hurts !!!

MySQL database's future is even more unstable because of these hurtful moves Oracle have done.

Oracle's moves have once again further reduced developers confidence that Oracle could take over Sun's legacy and protect us, but Oracle is doing the opposite, reducing our confidence and 'attacking' us.

I, as a Java developer, felt that this step Oracle has done to take on the Dalvik VM is one of the fatal blows to my confidence of Oracle. I am pretty convinced all these years of Sun's legacy would be lost forever by Oracle's sins.

Oracle only cares for itself rather then the communities of developers.

I think it's a little late for Sun to regret handing over their front door keys and trust that Oracle would continue to be nice and not evil. Oracle have betrayed these sacred trusts and ruined the good name Sun once built.

SHAME ON YOU ORACLE.

Oracle... you let Sun down !!!

Read:
There are more things I can add on that I am very sure Sun wouldn't want it to happen when they sold themselves to Oracle.

Oracle... you are letting Sun down !!!

Sun's vision of open source is being destroyed by you. People who once supported Sun because of their moving to openness is destroyed because of you! If you (Oracle) continue to go on down this road...it would only simply isolate you.

Sun released the MS Office ODF plugins free in hopes that more people would embrace the ODF format and promote it. Oracle... you twisted it and by doing so... you are destroying Sun's visions. Think very carefully before you act, Oracle.
